I want to make sure that everyone knows about the amazing play that our school is putting on in the next 2 weeks. It's the Diary of Anne Frank and the previews I've seen are amazing. My Humanities classes have been invited by Mr Smith to the dress rehersal Tuesday, November 30 at 7:30pm.
For those of you that would like to see the show another night, here's the info:
Show times are December 1,2,3, and 7,8,9 at 7:30pm at the Mark Isfeld Theatre on 1551 Lerwick Road. Tickets are $10.00 and are available at: Laughing Oyster and Videos and More in Comox as well as at the door.

Humanities 8
Today we had the Holocaust unit test, some students really took their studying seriously! Way to go. My report cards are almost finished, they'll be handed out next week. Next week we'll also be starting our displays for the Anne Frank play. These displays will also be used for the Heritage Fair.
FNS 12
Today was the chapter 15 test and we're off to chapter 16. I gave a short slide show yesterday on Aboriginal Veterans, to remind students of why we take time on the 11th to remember.
I hope to see lots of people out at the cenotaph on Thursday morning. Lest we forget.

This is me at a cemetary in France, remembering a Comox Valley soldier, Frank Browne, who died fighting for Canada in the Second World War.

Field Hockey is Over!
Now that the field hockey season is over, I hope to be able to update this blog a little more often...
So here's the update these days in the Kingdom of Fun:
Humanities 8
We have just completed our novel study of The Children of the Holocaust. Today was our last literature circle and Reading Response #4 was due today. My BF group has decided that they want to enter the Legion's Remembrance Day writing and poster competitions, so we will get started on that next week. Both groups will be creating displays for the Anne Frank play coming up at the beginning of December, we'll use these same projects for the Heritage Fair in the spring. I'm really excited about the research that we'll be doing!
BCFNS12
We are into Unit 2: Cultural Expressions. We just finished chapter 14 and are in the middle of chapter 15, Aboriginal Literature. Each student has chosen an Aboriginal novel/short story to read, some great titles to choose from!

Miss Parsons' Dream Came True!
Last night I was a very lucky person....I got to see Stuart McLean from the Vinyl Cafe. Not only did I get to see his concert, which was amazing by the way, but I got to see the show from the stage! I wrote to him a month ago about my lovely friend Jenn's struggles with cancer and they welcomed us to their show with good humor, kindness and fun. We were able to chat with Stuart, get an autograph and some pictures.
Stuart McLean is an amazing writer and I'll be using some of his stories in our Humanities 8 classes to inspire our own memoir writing. I can't wait to get started! Here's a link to The Vinyl Cafe: http://www.cbc.ca/vinylcafe/

We are working hard on our novel studies, lots of great discussions and questions have come up. Reading Response #1 was due last week. Reading Response #2 is due this Wednesday.
Brady's Beach at Bamfield...I was very lucky to chaperone the Marine Biology 10 class for 3 days.

The chapter 3 test is tomorrow and then we are off to Chapter 14 (we'll come back to chapter 4 later). We did a review today and had fun with the "fly swatter" game.

October 4th Update
Happy fall y'all!
Here's what's going on!
Humanities 8
Tomorrow we will sign out novels for our Children of the Holocaust unit. I'm also sending home a letter to parents to let you all know what books we will be studying. This week we'll be making a map of Europe and watching the documentary, Paper Clips.
FNS12
Chapter 2 is coming to an end tomorrow with the chapter quiz, then we're racing off to chapter 3! This week we will be looking at trading routes, goods and patterns and the Potlatch ceremony.
I will be chaperoning the Marine Biology 10 trip to Bamfield from Wednesday to Friday this week. Mr McDonald will be taking over for me this week.
