Update on the Kingdom of Fun

Humanities 8

We are all getting settled in here and now a cold bug has been hitting us, me included. We've been working on comic creating skills and are creating comics about a funny event that happened in our lives. These comics will be due Tuesday, Sept 28th. All students have been given criteria and a marking rubric for this assignment.

BCFNS 12
We are motoring through chapter 1, test will be Tuesday, Sept 28th. Yesterday was lots of fun when we went on a nature walk to see what local resources are in our back yard and then we shared some bannock, oregon grape jelly, smoked salmon and apple pie. Yum Yum.

Check this super cool contest out!

"One of the most common questions I get asked as an environmental educator is, “Why don’t we shoot our garbage into space?” Now it’s your turn to answer the question. Tell me your answer in a 500-1200 word essay for a chance to have your ideas animated into a video. What would happen? What would it cost? Would the planet survive?

Be creative with your essay and submit your finished original work with your name, age and contact information to powerofr@gmail.com with ESSAY CONTEST in the subject line. Youth aged 5-18 are invited to compete. Submissions are due by April 15th, 2011. What you think matters, so tell the world.

Judging will be completed by Zac Whyte and judges TBA by April 30th, 2011. Winners will be announced on Facebook, Twitter and PowerOfR.ca. The winning essay and runners-up will be posted on this site. The winner of this contest will not receive money or remuneration for their work and will be asked to sign a release form with their parents before production begins. Good luck."
