Happy Friday the 13th!

Good frosty morning Kingdom of fun!

Progress reports went home on Tuesday, please have your child find theirs, sign it and return it to school. This is not a term 2 report card, it's simply an update.

Humanities 8 update
We have had some excellent discussions about our novels and the Holocaust, lots of deep thinking, anger and confusion....which is good. We had our first Literature Circle yesterday and it went REALLY well! I was impressed at the level of discussion and the way the groups functioned. Reading Response #1 was due yesterday. All future Reading Responses will be due every Thursday for the next 3 weeks.

Humanities 9 update
My students have been working hard on creating their note making package for their Revolution. Yesterday went so well that I'd like to give them more time to do a great job. We'll be using this new information we're learning to create videos of our revolution...stay tuned!

Great first week back!

What a great return to school, the kids have been fun and positive this week. Yay!

Humanities 8
Everyone has their novels for the novel study now, and everyone seems to be enjoying their reading. Overdue assignments from this week include the Map of Europe and the Holocaust vocab. Next week we will be doing a timeline on Monday, the "shoebox" assignment on Tuesday, and Reading Response #1 will be due on Thursday. I'm looking foward to our discussions and deep thinking that will be happening in this unit.

Humanities 9
Students all have the revolution they will be studying and we have finished day one of our research. We will continue to create our notemaking packages next week, a due date has not been set.

Please check the side bar and the school website for exam week schedule.

I'm off snowshoeing this weekend, I can't wait!

Happy New Year!

It was great to see everyone today! It sounds like lots of you had some great holiday adventures. I'm very happy to hear about all the books that were under the tree this year, some great reading ahead.

Here's what's coming up for us in the Kingdom of fun:

Humanities 8
We are starting the Holocaust novel study. A letter went home today to parents/guardians, please have a look for it. Students will be signing out novels this week. Each week starting next week and for the next 4 weeks, students will be responsible for reading at least 1/4 of their novel, completing a Reading Response, and participating in a discussion group. It's a pretty powerful unit, lots of deep thinking will be coming up.

Humanities 9
Today we introduced the idea of "Revolution". We did 4 vocab words today and watched 4 clips on the 4 revolutions we will be studying: the French Revolution, the English Civil War, the American Revolution, and the Industrial Revolution. Tomorrow students will be choosing one revolution to study and present to the class at a later date.

I hope 2012 is a great year for everyone!
