Humanities 8

This has been a challenging term so far. I had hoped that students would have spent a good time researching and making notes during the 2 weeks we worked in the library. Unfortunately, many students did not use their time wisely and did not hand in their notes or handed them in incomplete.

So, I've had to move to plan B. Students who did work hard and researched and made notes continued on with their Heritage Fair Projects, which are now on display in the multi-purpose room during the Anne Frank play. These students will be considered to represent our school at the District Heritage Fair.

Students who did not do their notes or had very little done were assigned an alternate assignment on the Silk Road. I retaught notemaking, using the Magnet Note strategy and we went through the assignment step-by-step. It seems that most students now understand the Magnet note strategy, so hopefully we can move on to a different technique in the World Beliefs unit.

We are finishing chapter 4, we've finally arrived at the History portion of the course, which will take us to the end and our Provincial Exam. Today we are looking at the devastation by disease, a theme which we will revisit as we go through the history of Aboriginal people in BC.
